Smokers Lines

About Smoker’s Lines
Also Known as: Perioral Lines, Lip Lines, Vertical Lines, Lipstick Lines. What are Smoker’s Lines?
Sometimes called Smoker’s lines, their correct name is Perioral Lines, and unfortunately they are not wholly restricted to smokers.
What are The Causes of Smoker’s Lines?
smoking does not necessarily cause smoker’s lines; physiological ageing in general cause lines, folds, and wrinkles in the lower face area, or anything below the eyes, to form.
As well as natural ageing, the effects of the sun can also develop and increase the lines around the lips. These lines are more likely to form in smokers due to the repeated pursing of the lips to draw from the cigarette. Smoking also breaks down the production of collagen, which in turn increases the appearance of wrinkles and causes the skin to thin.
How Do We Treat Smoker’s Lines at Tracey Bell?
Smoker’s Lines are best treated with one of the dermal filler range. We use a range of fillers at The Tracey Bell Clinic, and on consult, we will recommend the perfect product for your concerns and skin.
We use Hyaluronic acid treatments that replace volume and tighten and smooth the skin. Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by the body therefore it is safe and effective with a decreased risk of an allergic reaction.
Our facial fillers containing Hyaluronic acid are injected beneath the skin to fill the particular area. This creates a more youthful appearance by plumping and smoothing the surface of the skin, diminishing the smoker’s line around the lip area. Facial fillers have great longevity; the treatment and its effect can last up to a year.
Facial fillers are viewed as a great alternative to surgery and the procedure takes little time to complete. The results can be seen immediately; the treatment is affordable and long lasting.
At Tracey Bell we can also use laser treatments to resurface the skin. High beams of energy are concentrated onto the damaged areas of the skin, which is encouraged to tighten and repair.
We can use several variations of lasers, however fractional lasers are the most popular as they are gentle and effective. Fractional lasers encourage new skin to develop and the body goes on to reproduce new collagen.
Laser treatment is a great option for smoker’s lines as the results can last up to a year.
CO2 Fractional Laser
CO2 delivers short bursts of extremely high-energy laser light. This revolutionary technology actually vaporises undesired skin tissue, one layer at a time, revealing fresh skin underneath. The non-ablative or non-wounding lasers work beneath the surface skin layer. This innovative approach therefore stimulates collagen growth and tightens the underlying skin which improves skin tone, tenacity and removes smoker’s lines and mild to moderate skin damage. It offers our patients the benefits of very few side effects, little downtime with visible results. By tightening loose skin the laser resurfacing can improve folds and creases, an alternative to traditional resurfacing methods like microdermabrasion, the treatment works well in conjunction with or as an additional treatment to other cosmetic skin procedures such as chemical peels.
IPL
The light energy of the IPL System stimulates the production of collagen, which very few other systems can accomplish. As the new collagen forms, it softens the appearance of aging skin. Fine lines and wrinkles are decreased.
Immediately after your skin will have a healthy glow. For major results with age spots, wrinkles and lines will be softened over a period of 4-8 weeks after the treatments.
Using a combination of fillers and lasers, our laser aestheticians and injectors at Tracey Bell can ensure an effective, long-term treatment to combat smoker’s lines and reinvigorate damaged and aged skin.
