Jowls

What are Jowls?
At Tracey Bell we refer to the lower part of the jaw as ‘jowls’. In particular, jowls refer to the fleshy area under the lower jaw, especially when it is plump or is noticeably drooping. What Are The Causes of Jowls?
Called by many different names, jowls are the droopy pockets of sagging skin that often make their appearance around the early to middle ages of life. The skin and muscles of the face, with age and time, begin to lose elasticity and tone. The Main Causes Of Jowls Include
Skin Laxity
Loss of Facial Volume
Repeated Mouth Movements
Above the mouth this fold is called the nasolabial fold.As the skin ages it loses elasticity therefore the skin along the jaw line begins to sag.
With the onset of age or facial fat atrophies, the face becomes less full, and the skin envelope becomes lax and sags.
Repeated smiling and facial expressions pull at the corner of the mouth and create a fold or line. Sagging facial skin can begin to fall where this crease has been created.
Below the mouth the line is called the marionette line -also called the pre-jowl sulcus.
How Do We Treat Jowls at Tracey Bell?
The ‘Liquid’ Face LiftTreatment options for the pre-jowl sulcus are not limited to costly surgical procedures like facial implants or the surgical facelift. At The Tracey Bell Clinic we use a variety of fillers that provide a minimally invasive procedure to replenish volume loss in the jowl area. This provides the lift necessary to restore a smooth, youthful jaw line. In addition to replenishing lost volume, the fillers we use at Tracey Bell can stimulate the production of your own natural collagen for results that last for a year or more in many of our patients.

Many non-surgical skin tightening technologies are available. At Tracey Bell we use the Thermage™ and Radio Frequency techniques to target the jowl area. All of these technologies tighten skin by heating the collagen in the deeper layers of the skin. When the collagen is heated to 66 degrees, the skin collagen contracts therefore the skin tightens.
This tightening method can give up to 20-30% improvement of the skin’s elasticity. The treatment is more effective for younger patients with early signs skin laxity and early sagging. At Tracey Bell we believe prevention is better than cure therefore laser options are the perfect starting point to reduce the onset of ageing and stop the sagging of the skin.
